17 Months

Caroline turned 17 months old today! She is cracking us up every day with something new. If she hurts you and you tell her she gave you a "boo boo" she'll say, "I'm sorry." How can you get upset then? We are continuing with the potty training. We're not really doing anything formal, but she'll usually go once or twice a day. She even went when we were at Kohl's yesterday! She is quite the monkey. The other day she pulled out her Bumbo seat and stacked it on top of her high chair then tried to climb to the top. On Sunday she stood in her music chair and wanted to get a better view out of the window, so she climbed on top of the paper shredder and fell off (that day she also consumed 3 bananas!). Yesterday, I ran in Home Depot to look at one thing, so I didn't put her in a cart. She wriggled down from my arms and next thing I know she's climing up that giant orange rolling ladder! I pulled her off of that and she immediately ran over to the fork lift and starting climbing up so she could make a break for it! She starts swimming lessons soon, so I'm hoping that will channel some of this energy! Mom and Dad went to Duke last week. Mom's bloodwork was fine. Dad had a few spots pop up on his lung and a few more lymph nodes enlarged, but the oncologist said we'll just keep on doing what we have been and check it again in 3 months, so we continue to be prayerful in regards to that. Kim is coming home this weekend as she has to meet with the ENT about getting her tonsils out this summer. We hope all will go well with that, too! Dickson, the college student from Africa, is staying with my parents this summer. We are hoping he can get a job for the summer so he can earn money to fly home to see his family next summer. I took him on an interview last week, so hopefully it will work out!

Another Zoo Trip

Here are pics from our latest zoo trip with Daddy, Grammy, Aunt Mel and Cousin Michael. Caroline always enjoys riding the carousel, but I think she was still a little sleepy... Apparently Michael might have a future as a dancer or a firefighter. He is really taken with the pole.Caroline always likes playing in the fountains.
A little cousinly love.

This frog scared me to death when he started hopping. He was huge!

Caroline liked riding the train with Grammy. She was too excited to sit!

Our Latest Trip to Asheville & Nashville

Here are pics from our latest trip to Asheville and Nashville. We have to thank Aunt Kim for some of them! We started out our trip in Asheville celebrating Papa's birthday!
I made this yummy strawberry cake. I was so proud because Chris always teases me for following recipes exactly and I used 3 different recipes to come up with this one! Finally, a little creativity!Grandma EvelynSince Papa, Grandma and I all have birthdays close together we went out to celebrate them all!Caroline loved playing with Papa's ducks. We arrived in Nashville the next day and enjoyed a nice dinner with my dear, sweet roomie from college, Kelly, and her husband, Val. Of course Aunt Kim and Uncle Jason, I mean, Jason were there! :)Caroline had it all over her!Afterwards Grandma had to give her a bath in Aunt Kim's kitchen sink. She loved it!She was fascinated with the water coming out of the faucet. Aunt Kim's roomies found a china place setting with "Kim Parker" written on them. It's funny because her boyfriend's last name is Parker. Maybe these will come in handy one day, Kim! Sunday, Grandma's dearest friend, Linda, came over for a visit. We love her so much!

Chillin' in the hammock...

Caroline loves Aunt Kim's phone.
She also loves playing with Aunt Kim's roomies, Betsy and Rachel. And especially Sarah! Aunt Kim took us to a nearby park which of course Caroline loved.
Aunt Kim bought Caroline her first popsicle. She absolutely loved it!
Later that day we went to church with Kim. Where she attends church is in an old cannery building in downtown Nashville. It definitely has a lot of character. Of course Caroline wouldn't sit through the service, so she and I spent a lot of time in the lobby. They had these beautiful big windows, and the light coming in was gorgeous. I had to wait until after church to get a few pics and the sun had already started to set. Oh well. I was afraid to walk too far away as she's quite a little dare devil. I was afraid she might jump out. Anyway, you can see some of the downtown buildings in the background. This one shows my favorite, the "batman" building as we always called it! Afterwards we enjoyed some nice Chinese food at Pei Wei in Green Hills.

Monday, we went with Aunt Kim to school. Caroline enjoyed seeing all the children, but was a bit overwhelmed. She and I bolted for a "field trip" to the mall for part of the day!Look at the excitement!Already getting in trouble yanking hair! After school Grandma tried to teach Caroline how to water Aunt Kim's flowers. This is her typical "I don't know" look! Can I chew on this?Ok...now I get it!Now time to relax in the hammock! That night we went to my favorite restaurant, Baja Burrito, and met our friend, Justin. Justin used to live in SC and he and I went to LU together. I have known him since I was about 5!
Caroline was mad because I ate all the pineapple salsa in the joint!

The next day we go to go to Lipscomb's campus and take some lovely pictures. They had lots of flowers in our school colors!

Who does she think she needs to beat up...Mommy for taking all these pics???

Later we caught up with Caroline's cousin, Stephanie, on campus. Kim made us a nice dinner for our last night in Nashville!

We enjoyed some last minute play time in the yard! While we were gone, Chris and Dad went to Charleston fishing. Here's Dad with his fish! :) Fun times had by all!
